MELBOURNE, Fla --At 10:50am on April 20, police responded to an emergency 911 call at South Melbourne
residence regarding the abduction of a six-year-old child.
Police say the woman informed responding officers the child was taken by multiple female suspects who had attacked her and threatened her with a knife. The suspects were believed to be related to the child's father, and they were fleeing to Alabama where the father lives. The vehicle the child was kidnapped in had Alabama license plates.
Dispatchers with the Melbourne Police Department's Communications Center issued an alert to other Law Enforcement agencies statewide, but for some reason, did not issue a nation-wide or state-wide AMBER Alert, which sends out emergency alerts nation-wide or state-wide to cellphones, TV's and radio stations when situations like this occur.
