FP&L Crews Restore Power After Tornado Ravages Through Melbourne Neighborhoods

Power crews tonight brought out a large crane, a flat bed with wooden poles, line, equipment, a dozen trucks and many electric company workers to do hard work overnight to replace snapped power poles and fix twisted up electrical line.

FP&L says power should be restored soon.

Earlier tonight, shortly before 6pm, a brief EF-0 tornado hit the ground in the Presidential Neighborhood and traveled into the Ixora Park neighborhood.  The twister, the National Weather Service says, was on the ground for about three minutes and was about 75 ft wide with winds at around 85 MPH.

According to the NWS's Survey Summary:

A National Weather Service survey team conducted an initial damage assessment in the Ixora Park neighborhood, near Sarno Road
in Melbourne. The survey determined that a brief EF-0 tornado occurred shortly before 6:00 PM EDT, which was on the ground for
approximately 2 to 3 minutes. The preliminary width of the tornado was 75 yards with a total path length of one-quarter mile.

The tornado touched down near Adams Avenue and moved south-southeast toward Sarno Road. In this area, multiple homes
experienced carport, roof, siding, and soffit damage. Several trees were uprooted or partially uprooted, large tree branches were  scattered, and a few power poles were snapped. As the tornado moved south of Sarno Road, damage was limited to mainly siding
and soffits.

There are presently no known direct injuries or fatalities as a result of the tornado damage. This survey is considered preliminary, and additional information will continue to be gathered on this tornado. Thank you to Brevard County Emergency
Management, local broadcast media, trained spotters, and local residents for providing information before and during the storm
survey.
