TAMPA, Fla

Dramatic video tonight shows the moments a suspect was run over and killed by a car as he was trying to run away from police.
The black in colored SUV drove away.
The suspect, who was being confronted by police over reports that he was beating a woman in the parking lot of 4000 block of West Hillsborough Avenue, refused to listen to commands of the officers, shoved the officer away before running away and trying to cross the street.
The Tampa Police Department is searching for that hit-and-run driver who ran over and killed the suspect while he was running away from police early Friday morning.
"Our officer tried to detain the male," Deputy Chief Ruth Cate of the Tampa Police Department said. "Unfortunately, a car was also coming at the same time and struck the male," she said. Police could not give further description of the black SUV hit-n-run vehicle.
It is unclear if the taser which was deployed and fired even struck the fleeing suspect.
Officer Luis Garcia is a six-month veteran of the Tampa Police Department and has previous law enforcement experience. Officer Garcia has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for an in-custody death investigation. TPD says it’s considered an in-custody death because the officer was trying to arrest the man when he was hit by the car and killed and that's why the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will take the lead on that part of the investigation.
