Los Angelos, Ca --  Aug 09, 2024 // The Blake Moia Show

A suspect linked to the 1989 rapes of two women in the Boston area was taken into custody Thursday after leading police on an hour-long chase through Los Angeles.

The pursuit started just before 4 p.m. in the Wilmington area, local TV reports.

News helicopters were over head as the LAPD was pursuing the serial rapist, identified as 71-year-old Stephen Paul Gale, as he avoided police spike strips along the freeway.

Wanted for Armed Robbery, Kidnapping and Rape

According to authorities, Gale allegedly robbed a store in Framingham, Massachusetts, located about 20 miles west of Boston, just two days after Christmas in 1989 and sexually assaulted two female employees while holding a gun to their heads.

He has been on the run ever since and DNA testing lead authorities to Gale and were able to positively ID him.

A nationwide manhunt was underway for Gale's arrest and federal authorities spread information around nationwide.

Gale was seen handcuffed to a stretcher after he eventually surrendered to the LAPD and the U.S. Marshals. The chase lasted for about an hour. Gale ran over a spike strip in the Westwood area and at least one tire went flat during the chase.

"He sexually assaulted both women while holding the gun to their heads,” Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan told the Boston outlet at the time. “When [Gale] returned to the front of the store, the victims fled out the rear fire door to a nearby home.”
