Melbourne Man Caught Trafficking Fentanyl while Armed with Loaded Firearm

MELBOURNE, Fla -- June 25, 2024

A Melbourne man is in jail today on serious charges, accused of trafficking Fentanyl while armed with a loaded firearm.

On the evening of June 9th, Melbourne Police say FTO Fahy stopped a white Kia SUV at the intersection of Florida Ave and Saxton Ave in the south end of the city for a dark window tint. The investigation revealed the window tint was measured at 11%, which is below the legally allowed tint permitted by state law.  A K-9 officer was dispatched to the scene to assist.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was acting nervous and the K-9 conducted an "open air sniff" and alerted to a positive presence of illegal contraband. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered a large wad of toilet paper sitting in the center console and inside the wad of toilet paper was a trafficking amount of Fentanyl -- weighing more than 46 grams. A scale with residue was also discovered on the driver's seat which tested positive for Fentanyl.

39-year-old Barrington Hall was immediately placed under arrest upon discovery of the illegal contraband.

Police say they also discovered three additional magazines with thirty-five .45 caliber rounds located inside a green and black fanny pack under the driver's seat where his feet were.  Authorities noted they found Hall's Florida identification card inside the same fanny pack.

The firearm found in the driver's possession was described as a black Springfield XD-45ACP which had 12 live rounds in the magazine and 1 loaded in the chamber.

Hall was transported to the Brevard County Jail on a $50,000 bond and remains in jail tonight.  He was also given 2 citations for the illegal window tint and driving without a license.  His vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded.
