At around 3:35 a.m., Fort Wayne Police Officer M. Wills observed the vehicle 29-year-old Tyjana Smith was driving, ran a stop sign, while driving at a high rate of speed.
Tyjana had an arrest warrant for driving while suspended, refused to identify, and was non-compliant with the officer’s directives. She refused to exit the vehicle, and after numerous attempts to get her to exit voluntarily; officers forcefully removed her. She physically resisted, causing the officers to use force to gain compliance. Officers arrested and charged Smith with resisting arrest and battery on an officer among other charges.
The Fort Wayne Police Chief Scott Caudill has ordered a formal investigation to ensure all rules, regulations and policies were followed.
Officer Wills was recently the center of protests after fatally shooting 22-year-old Linzell Parhm in June. He was placed on administrative leave after the shooting. An investigation into Wills’ actions when Parhm was killed is ongoing.
