A 24-year-old woman from Palm Bay was arrested by the West Melbourne Police Department after colliding with a motorcycle and leaving the scene with the motorcycle still attached to the car.

Police say Rebekah Makinzie Tate also attempted to remove and dispose of the motorcycle after parking the vehicle at a car dealership parking lot.

The Details of the Crash

According to the West Melbourne Police Department, “Tate was traveling east on U.S. 192 approaching Dairy Road when her vehicle crashed into a 34-year-old West Melbourne man riding a motorcycle,” said Lt. Erenstoft of the West Melbourne Police Department in a press release.

“The force of the crash caused the motorcyclist’s helmet to come off, leaving him in the middle of the roadway with life threatening injuries. Instead of remaining on scene or calling 911, Tate can be seen driving away with the motorcycle still attached to the front of her vehicle.”

Lt. Erenstoft said Tate then pulled her vehicle into the parking lot of a local business in an attempt to hide the evidence.

“At one point, Tate attempted to remove the motorcycle from underneath her vehicle,” said Lt. Erenstoft. “She is then is seen talking on her phone before being picked up in a black sedan.”

Authorities said the incident happened in the early morning hours on Sunday at the intersection of U.S. 192 and Dairy Road.
