A Melbourne woman is still sitting at the Brevard County Jail today after authorities say she crashed her car into a light pole and running over several street signs.

Sara Mockler, who lives on Clarke Ave., in Melbourne, was driving a gray Hyundai Tuscon when witnesses watched it crash into a light pole on Osage Ave. and Choctaw Dr. during the late night hours of December 10th.

The witness was able to describe the driver to police and told police the vehicle pulled up into a residence on 758 Clarke Ave., where she entered the house.

Authorities say they noticed the airbag was deployed along with heavy front-end damage consistent of running over fixed objects.

Failure to Perform Field Sobriety Tests

When police knocked on the door of the residence, Mockler answered the door - matching the description provided by witnesses and that she was stumbling and failing to maintain her balance. Police report that Mockler also had glassy eyes and slurred speech.

Mockler admitted to police that she consumed alcohol prior to the incident.

Backup officer, Officer Proctor interviewed the witness who positively identified Mockler as the driver who crashed and fled the scene, the police report says.

Mockler refused to perform any field sobriety tests or a breathalyzer test and was placed under arrest for 2 counts of driving under the influence w/ property damage, leaving the scene of an accident, careless driving, and running a stop sign. She was also issued 6 traffic citations.

Paperwork shows that Mocker was found as "indigent" status with a take home pay of only $300 with 3 children to depend on her.

Mockler's bond was set at $4,000 and at last check is still in jail. Her next court appearance is January 22, 2025 at 9am in Viera.  Records show she has a criminal record dating back to 2004 for possession of Cocaine, selling Marijuana and several violations of probation convictions.

The total cost of damage she caused was worth over $10,000.  The office of the public defender was appointed to represent Mockler.
