Melbourne Man Arrested After Incident with Former Brevard County Sheriff Jack Parker at East Florida State University

MELBOURNE, Fla ---------------------------------------------------------------

A Melbourne man is in jail tonight on 9,500$ bond after he allegedly had a run-in with the former Brevard County Sheriff on Wednesday morning.

A police report says 43-year-old Jonathan Ray from Locksley Rd. in Melbourne was trespassing at the Florida East Coast College campus on Wickham Road.  When Jack Parker, who is the retired Brevard County Sheriff - is now the Vice President of the campus, confronted Ray if he had any legitimate business being on the campus, the suspect ran into a wooded area before being trapped by a fence.

The report says the former sheriff tried to get the fleeing suspect to stop and told him that he was being trespassed and he needed to wait for the Melbourne Police Department.

That's when the suspect became confrontational.

Police say the suspect chest bumped into the former sheriff on purpose.  He then began to ball up his fists and attempted to throw a punch towards the victim.

Security was able to detain the man until officers arrived. Upon search, police found a meth pipe and a baggie of meth in his pocket.  Mr. Ray was charged with felony battery of a school employee, assault of a school employee trespassing, and drug possession on school property.
