Election day is only 6 days away and we are making one last final endorsement. This time, for "The People's Mayor" -- Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey.
Mayor Alfrey, a true Eau Gallie grown native, is a businessman, a retired Melbourne police K-9 officer and a former city councilman and vice-mayor. The Melbourne Mayor is also pro first and second amendment.
Mayor Paul Alfrey was elected in 2020 in a 4-way race, after Meehan was term-limited.
This time around in 2024, Mayor Paul Alfrey is facing opposition from this same Kathy Meehan creature, after Meehan failed to do the simplest of things for 8 straight years.
Meehan, who is from Canada, has a history of not returning phone calls, emails or text messages from her constituents, also failed to return phone calls, emails and text messages sent from The Blake Moia Show.
She, as well as her "friends" have refused to hold a debate hosted and moderated by The Blake Moia Show. Alfrey, on the other hand, has issued an open challenge debate. . .
The Blake Moia Show first met with Mayor Alfrey at the sandbag distribution center during the peak of the preparations for Hurricane Milton.
While Sheriff Wayne Ivey was sending chain gang inmate crews to manually fill up sandbags with a shovel to tens of thousands of panicked and worried residents who were waiting in line for 8 hours -- with some never receiving any help after waiting all that precious time -- Mayor Alfrey took the initiative to hand out 10 free sand bags to city of Melbourne residents which were pre-filled by paid city staff.
The mayor could have made a huge spectacle about this like the Sheriff did, but he did the honorable thing and got right down to business and made sure that everyone was provided with sandbags without wasting everyone's time. In fact, Mayor Alfrey's line was only 45 minutes long -- compared to the Sheriff's sandbag location sites of over 8 hours.
Mayor Alfrey has also upgraded our roads, pipes and infrastructure -- ensuring that no spillage of raw sewage and other toxic waste does not get leaked into our Indian River Lagoon which was once home to the AIS Indian Tribe about 1,000 years ago.
As previously reported on this very website, more than 40 MILLION gallons of raw, untreated, toxic raw sewage has been spilled by other municipalities in our county since Hurricane Irma. During Hurricane Milton, 500,000 gallons of raw sewage was spilled by the city of Palm Bay and 60,000 gallons spilled by the City of Titusville.
How many gallons has the City of Melbourne spilled? ZERO.
Why? Because unlike these other cities, Mayor Paul Alfrey and staff are using our taxpayer money correctly and properly - to go towards where it really should be going - improvement.
Mayor Paul Alfrey has re-paved roads -- something that ex-mayor Kathy Meehan refused to do. In fact, Meehan has not paved a single road during her tenure as mayor - only less than a mile of road. Babcock Street near Melbourne Highschool used to be completely un-drivable forever. We called Kathy back then and asked her when the road was going to be fixed.
Her reply? "The county won't do it unless I sell them the portion to 192 and I refuse to sell anything to anybody." So, the road was left in disarray. That is, until Paul Alfrey was elected. Mayor Alfrey entered into an agreement with the County to get the road repaved and the rest is history.
Melbourne was about 25 million dollars behind on the road projects under Kathy Meehan. Today, the city is repaving roughly 5 miles of road per year with the lowest tax milage in over a decade. Melbourne has the highest paid police and firefighters in the entire county.
The city has put in tens of millions of dollars upgrading our infrastructure and systems. Mayor Paul Alfrey is anti-corruption as well. He's had elected officials arrested for fraud and corruption.
Under the last administration, then Vice-Mayor Alfrey uncovered an invoice scam involving Kathy Meehan where it took 5 years for the roof on the Honor America Museum building to be "replaced" only for it to be repainted. Both Kathy Meehan and Betty Moore motioned for the contract and when fraud was discovered by the city council, Kathy attempted to stall and obstruct the investigation. Alfrey petitioned the state to conduct an official state audit of the city at which the investigation revealed $30,000 in fraud, at which only half of the funds were recovered, and the other half went already spent for season tickets for the Miami Dolphins football games, fancy restaurants and to pay off personal debts.
Kathy Meehan has also profited millions off of illegal land-grabs right under our noses and an inaccessible rain pond located next to some railroad tracks. She also has a rundown, uncatered to land in the Sherwood neighborhood that hasn't been kept up-to-date.
Lastly, as the Mayor of Melbourne, Paul Alfrey has gotten rid of the Patels and ran the problem of homeless drug addicts out of town. Several fans of Blake Moia have sent in pictures of buckets filled with hypodermic needles collected by business owners around their business property. The city passed ordinances prohibiting the act of giving someone in traffic money or any other item, as well as passed traffic obstruction ordinances.
The bottom line? Kathy Meehan was a useless, worthless and a do-nothing, waste money mayor. We're endorsing "The People's Mayor", Paul Alfrey. The recent criticism of him from completely obsessed internet trolls using fake profiles over the past few days are completely unfounded and exaggerated. The Blake Moia Show says, "Well done so far, sir."
