Massive Severe Storms in Houston Knocks out Power for Millions of People

HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS

Millions of residences and business customers are without power today in Texas.

A huge severe storm that produced over 170MPH winds swept through Houston, Texas on Thursday night.  The violent storm toppled over large transmission towers which supplies the transfer of electricity from sub-station-to-substation, and then ultimately to your homes.

Four people were confirmed killed in the storm.

Officials released images of the downs power lines, which is made of copper and reinforced aluminum.  They are thicker and heavier than your standard power lines that run through neighborhoods.  The wires are then held up by large, reinforced steel tower trusses.  Porcelain insulators are used to secure the heavy wires and keep the electricity from running through the tower.

The truss towers are built to withstand heavy and violent winds.  Experts say they are rated for 160mph sustained winds for 3 hours.

Over 40% Without Power in the County

Emergency Management Leaders in Texas are reporting that 43% of the city is without power.  This includes the Metro area of Houston, downtown and the suburbs.  Officials say it could be weeks or months for crews to make repairs and replace the power transmission towers.

"New steel will have to be shipped in.  Wire is going to have to be rewelded.  The steel for the truss towers has to be welded again.  We're working with live 2-million-volt lines here", a power company spokesperson said.

Meanwhile in Downtown Houston, pictures show a high-rise tower with most of its windows blown out.

"Winds peaked at 125 MPH here in this area," A spokesperson told The Blake Moia Show.

On the Alex Jones Show on Infowars.com today, Alex claimed the feds are manipulating the weather by using doppler radar and its high-powered beam to ionize the atmosphere.

The other part of the issue with the Texas power grid is that they are refusing the connect to the National Power grid.
