LEE COUNTY, Fla -- The Blake Moia Show
The Florida Highway Patrol said they conducted a traffic stop on a truck on I-75 and when they began conducting a field sobriety test on the driver, 19-year-old Anthony Mojica, ran to his truck and sped away from the scene.
Troopers were able to perform a successful pit maneuver on Colonial Boulevard and the northbound I-75 entrance ramp.
Troopers say the vehicle had over 363 grams of cannabis, several narcotic pills, cocaine, a firearm and drug paraphernalia.
Troopers Police Report: On June 20, 2024, at approximately 12:11 AM, I, Trooper Juan Rosado, was on marked uniformed patrol with the Florida Highway Patrol in Lee County.
While on patrol, I responded to the area of Interstate 75 northbound and MM145 in reference to a vehicle, a black Ram 1500 bearing a Florida tag, that fled from a traffic stop conducted by Trooper Jorge. In speaking with Trooper Jorge, he stated that the initial traffic stop was a well-being check, as the vehicle was traveling across lanes of traffic and continually driving in the left lane at a slower rate of speed, impeding the flow of traffic. Upon making contact with the driver, later identified by Florida driver’s license as Anthony Mojica, Trooper Jorge stated that emitting from the vehicle was an odor he knew through his training and experience to be that of unburnt cannabis.
As Trooper Jorge began his investigation, he suspected Mojica to be driving while under the influence and requested DUI Enforcement Trooper Gutierrez to assist in the investigation. As Trooper Jorge and Trooper Gutierrez began to conduct their investigation and perform SFSE's, Mojica ran back to his vehicle, entered the driver’s seat, and began to travel north at an extremely high rate of speed. As the pursuit continued, I joined in as Mojica traveled south on Burnt Store Rd and Zemel Rd in Charlotte County, approaching Lee County.
As we continued traveling south into Lee County, Mojica continued to drive in a reckless manner, knowingly driving with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of others at a high rate of speed. Mojica reached speeds over 108 MPH on roads with a posted limit of 45 MPH. As we traveled east on Colonial Blvd, approaching I-75, Mojica attempted to enter the on-ramp for NB I-75. As Mojica began to make a left, I performed a successful PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a final stop on the northbound on-ramp.
I then exited my vehicle and, along with Trooper Pepitone, broke the driver’s window and extracted Mojica from the vehicle, ultimately placing him in custody at 1:18 AM. Mojica was then placed in the back of Trooper Jorge’s vehicle. I then read Mojica his Miranda Rights from an agency-issued card.
Mojica stated that he understood his rights but wished to invoke his right to remain silent. Seated in the passenger seat was a Caucasian female, later identified by Florida driver’s license as Dana Brook La Bell. La Bell was detained initially as we conducted our investigation but was later released. La Bell stated that she had just met Mojica and was on the way to his home to smoke “weed.” La Bell continued that she did not know Mojica was under the influence nor that he was going to flee from law enforcement. La Bell stated that she repeatedly pleaded with Mojica to stop the vehicle, fearing for her life and the possible outcome. I then, along with other troopers on the scene, began to conduct an inventory for the tow.
Contained within the center console was a clear plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance, weighing a prepackaged weight of 6.2 grams, which later field-tested with TruNarc to be presumptive positive for cocaine.
Also contained within the center console was an orange medicine bottle with the label scratched off containing 2 white rectangular tabs marked “G3722" (Alprazolam), 2 small white round pills marked “K57" (Oxycodone), and 3 white round pills marked “5424” (Methadone Hydrochloride), all verified through Drugs.com.
Also contained within the center console was a white “Advil” bottle containing 20 blue round pills marked “M30” (Oxycodone Hydrochloride), verified through Drugs.com.
There was also a large silver scale. In the rear seat was a green backpack. Contained within the backpack were several plastic baggies with unburnt green leafy substance, having a prepacked weight of 363.7 grams, which later field-tested presumptive positive for cannabis.
Also contained within was a gold scale with a white powdery substance residue, which later field-tested presumptive positive for cocaine with a cocaine wipe that turns blue in the presence of cocaine.
There was also a roll of vacuum seal, with a few baggies already made, a social security card for “Kyle A Cornell” with the last four digits being 7076, and one black flip cellular phone with the purchase receipt. A
loaded Glock 43 with serial #AFWG368 and 3 magazines containing 13 brass “Luger 9MM” ammunition was also found. An inquiry through DAVID and dispatch showed that Mojica had a suspended driver’s license as of 4/17/2023.
Based on the totality of the circumstances and the evidence on the scene, I arrested and charged Anthony Mojica for knowingly violating Possession of Controlled Substance (6 counts), Intent to Sell, Felony Drug Equipment, Flee to Elude, Reckless Driving, Driving While Under the Influence, Driving While License Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled/Disqualified, Possession of Firearm in the Commission of a Crime, and Out of County Warrant.
