Confirmed Tornado Ravages Melbourne

June 27, 2024 -- MELBOURNE, Fla

The Blake Moia Show is on scene tonight where a destructive tornado left several residences without power.

We talked to a neighbor named Renee, who lives in the Sarno Road area:

"It sounded like a really bad car wreck. I thought it was just another typical accident happening on Sarno and then I go to look outside, and all hell is breaking out", Renee said.  "Stuff was flying around everywhere.  So, I went back inside."

The tornado damage started in the Garfield neighborhood on the North side of Sarno Road and ends in The Ixora Park Neighborhood on the South side of Sarno Road, The Blake Moia Show reports.

Power crews were seen as of 9pm this evening to replace broken power pole, fix down power lines and restore power.

Power Crews on Scene to Restore Power

Florida Power and Light crews are on scene in the Garfield Neighborhood to restore power.   Power crews will be working throughout the night to restore power.  The Blake Moia Show heard several generators running as we surveyed the scene.

Possible Path of The Tornado

Preliminary investigation shows the tornado started to spin up during a severe thunderstorm in the Eau Gallie, off of Washington Avenue area in the Garfield Neighborhood.  Several tree limbs, trees, debris, trampolines and other objects were thrown around in the twister.  Damage was reported along Hoover Street and Madison Ave.  Down powerlines, and power poles were snapped like twigs along Jefferson Ave.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne said that there were multiple boundary collisions in the area because of strong storms moving along the sea breeze. They said the tornado was on the ground for three minutes at around 6pm.

The winds were estimated between 85-100 MPH.

A house on Sarno Road, directly across from the Thompkins Ave intersection was destroyed.  Its roof destroyed -- shredded like cheese through a grater.  A stop sign was also bent and twisted.

The twister crossed Sarno Road and continued traveling SSE to the Ixora Park Neighborhood.  More damage was reported in the Cadillac Circle and Buick Ave area where a residence gazebo was lifted up from the back yard and thrown into the front yard like a rag doll.  A neighbor's 100ft tree was uprooted and landed in the front lawn.  Screens were destroyed.

Melbourne Police were seen blocking off Sarno Road and several roads to neighborhoods due to down power lines.
